SATA is the serial interface for connection of storing devices (today it, basically, hard disks) and it is called to replace old parallel interface ATA. Standard Serial ATA of the first generation today is used very widely and provides the maximal speed of data transmission 150 Mbit/s. The maximal length of a cable - 1 meter. SATA uses connection "point-to-point" when one end of cable SATA connects to a motherboard, and the second - to a hard disk. Additional devices are not connected to this cable, unlike parallel ATA, when it is possible to connect two drives to each cable.
